In this article I will give you ideas on how to sell products online and produce varying income streams.
This will always be my top pick because I am involved with affiliate marketing. There are so many products and services that will pay you to advertise for them. From a blog about specific types of products or services to a general review site you can use any idea or passion to pursue your dream of being self employed online.
There are also various sites out there that have affiliate partners listed like a catalog of ways to get paid just for writing posts on your website.
There are also various systems and training sites offering to teach you how to do affiliate marketing as gaining visibility amongst the billions of websites on the internet can be a struggle. Getting inside information in order to have an edge over your competition is always worth your time.
Creating a Product to Sell
As an artist this is also near and dear to my heart. You have various sites and apps vying to sell your handcrafted items. Between Etsy, Ebay, Amazon, LetGo, Shopify, Facebook Shops and the myriad of other offerings you have so many ways to sell your items it’s ridiculous.
Most of these sites do cost a little to use. Many take a percentage of your sales so be aware of what you’re signing up for.
Also, don’t forget to check out the requirements for selling online where you live. I know in the state I live in you’re required to have a state tax license and a business license for the town I live in. Make sure that you’re legally able to sell your product before you start selling.
Start Your Own E-Commerce Site
You could easily start your own e-commerce site to sell your products/services if you don’t want to share your profits with the services mentioned above. Most web hosting platforms have e-commerce suites and widgets you can use to sell your products and services for yourself.
These can be a bit intimidating for newcomers to website building but you can usually get help from your web hosting company in the form of FAQ’s or their own experts. Some even have a live chat and can help you on the spot! There are also web building services you can use to build your site but these will often cost you quite a bit.
Definitely read the fine print and be aware of any upsells and extras the hosting services offer before jumping in. Sometimes ‘free’ doesn’t really mean free.
Sites for Creative Minds
Finally, there are sites for creative minds like writers, artists, modders and those who create less physical offerings but still have an audience and value to their work.
There’s Patreon when you set up a homepage much like Facebook but you can have ‘Patrons’ that either pledge monthly or by creation to support your work. In exchange most artists offer bonus material for patrons like exclusive sneak peeks into new works or swag that gets sent to them on a recurring basis.
Fiverr is an option where you set up an account, offer your services (often for $5) and people will pay you to provide your service in a timely manner. For example, say you’re a musician and you offer to write an original 30 second song for $5 with a sample on your profile. People will see your profile and if they decide they like your style they’ll pay you for a 30 second song.
BuyMeaCoffee.com is a site much like Patreon but your followers can give a one time donation or sign up to support you monthly. I like this format because if someone found your post informative and helpful they might just buy you a coffee. Options can be from $1 to $5 per coffee and you can sign up to be paid via Paypal and/or Stripe.
No matter what your style of selling and the type of product or service you offer, there are so many ways to sell products online. With some research (and making sure to read the fine print) you can certainly find one or multiple ways that are right for you and will help you reach your dream of being self employed online.

Catharyn – The Rebel Entrepreneur
As a Rebel Entrepreneur you’re going to have to investigate the myriad of opportunities on offer online. My hope is that you’ll consider me as a reliable and honest reviewer of these programs and offers to help you decide what path you want to take.
Wealthy Affiliate Review
I came across this program by chance, just looking for work from home opportunities. I saw a review, much like this one, and started hunting down more. I checked to see if it was legit or a scam, read hundreds of reviews; some negative but mostly positive. I decided to give them a chance.
First of all, the community is pretty awesome. You immediately get welcomed by dozens of people, tons of advice, bombarded by notifications on your email… Yeah, it’s a lot. My advice if you have your email set up to give you notifications on your phone is to turn that off. My phone is constantly buzzing, even at 3am.
It’s not all bad, I’m happy for the support but it can be overwhelming. The sheer number of trainings, both official and by the members themselves, is monumental.
Therein lies another con: the sheer amount of information can be daunting. However, if you just ignore all the background noise and focus on your training, whether the bootcamp that they have to become an affiliate for them or the general training (I would not attempt both at the same time, but you do you) you’ll do just fine.
The final negative I have is a personal preference. I know that Wealthy Affiliate is a business and the upsells are very limited, I appreciate that, but the automated messages from the owners bug me. It’s your classic ‘I’m trying to sell you this, but no pressure… but this offer is limited…’ tactic. Also, I feel like the profile messages and private messages within WA from the owners and my ‘Personal Coach’ are all automated.
I get it, you can’t get to everyone. It just feels impersonal.
Otherwise, WA is a great program. The community is amazing, supportive and really, genuinely, wants you to succeed. They are one of the biggest reasons I pay the monthly fee.
Another reason is the upside of one of the downsides: the heaps of info on affiliate marketing. We’re talking an amount that must be one of the world’s largest collections of information on online marketing. The tools you’re given are state of the art, the hosting alone you would pay hundreds of dollars a month for (I know, I’ve done it) and it’s all in one bundle. You just have to be able to focus, follow the guidance and success is inevitable.
Here’s the breakdown
- Great community
- Tons of information on Affiliate Marketing
- Free Membership for all the basic tools
- Low pressure sales
- Not a lot of upsells
- The amount of messages and info can be overwhelming
- Automated messages seem impersonal
The Final Verdict
As you can see, my experience with Wealthy Affiliate has been a good one. I’m enjoying the training, the community and focusing on what I want to do with my website. The other stuff will be there when I’m ready for it, the community will be there to answer my beginner questions and I feel confident about my future as an affiliate marketer.
What else could I really ask?

Keywords are your ‘key’ to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and getting your website ranked on Google, Bing and other search engines. With the correct tools and know how keywords will be your greatest ally in the race to the top of search engine rankings.
What the Heck Are Keywords and Why Should I Care?
Keywords are the words we all type into our favorite search engine to find the sites we need in order to get the info we need at any given moment. Say I go to Google and type in ‘Gothic clothing for women’; those are keywords. I’ll click Enter and ‘BAM!’ I get websites displaying various Gothic fashion sites.
Keyword research is using a tool to find the keywords people are using to search for things in order to utilize said words to help people find your site. These keywords also help you get ranked in search engines along with relevant, up to date, content.
The trick to using keywords is finding the ones that people are searching but there aren’t a lot of websites utilizing them.
This Sounds Complicated…
Oh, it is. Without a tool to help you I’m unsure how you’d do it. I’ve never actually had to try thanks to the amazing tools at Wealthy Affiliate, like the keyword tool Jaaxy, as well as the great training on keywords and keyword research. I actually enjoy keyword searches now and being able to find that perfect phrase to draw people in.
I mean, you’re here now reading this so it definitely worked!
Then How the Heck Do I Do This?
Instead of telling you, why don’t I show you? In Wealthy Affiliate we use the keyword tool Jaaxy and I love it. It’s easy, fun and super helpful.
I’m going to hook you up with a training from Wealthy Affiliate on the keyword tool just so you can see first hand what I’m talking about.
Kyle is one of the co-founders of Wealthy Affiliate and he does a great job at explaining all these concepts.
I’m going to show you my keyword search for this particular article in a screenshot:
I wanted to write an article on how to use keywords in your website in order to get ranked in search engines so I typed in ‘How to use keywords’. As you can see, I got a bunch of results with some better than others. I carefully studied the numbers given in order to decide which keywords I would use.
To make things a little more clear, this is what those columns mean:
- Avg: the average number of searches those keywords get in a month.
- Traffic: the number of visits you can expect to your site if you ranked first in Google (and Google is #1 so that’s your main competition)
- QSR: this is the number of competing websites featuring those keywords. Obviously the fewer the better.
- KQI: Keyword Quality Indicator. In other words, you’ll get higher traffic with less competition if this is green. Yellow is not so much and red is ‘don’t go there’. Honestly, the more straightforward keywords are usually red because more sites use those than the more obscure searches. That doesn’t mean you’ll get less traffic by not using them. In fact, with less competition you’ll get ranked higher and that means more people visiting you.
- SEO: This is the overall score of your keywords which gives you the chances of your site becoming #1 for that particular search. The higher this number the better.
Jaaxy is Your One Stop Shop For Keywords
As you can see using a keyword search tool like Jaaxy makes it very simple to find the right keywords for any website or blog. You can utilize this tool on Wealthy Affiliate on a basic level for free. If you decide to go Premium you can use all of the suites which go even deeper into SEO than just basic keyword searches.
I’ll be honest: I haven’t even scratched the surface of everything Jaaxy is capable of. Once I figure it all out I’ll be sure to make an article about it on this site, so stay tuned!
Keywords Are the ‘Key’ to Your Success!
You don’t have to take my advice. You can use a different tool for SEO or you can take your chances and do your content your way without worrying about keywords at all.
Jaaxy is just one tool for using keywords to your advantage and making your site rank better in a sea of websites on the internet. However, this tool will make your life much easier and help you get your site noticed, ranked and make you that much more successful.
If you think Jaaxy is the help you need, please try it. I’ve enjoyed using it to reach you, I hope it helps you to be successful online.
I wish you luck, success and for your dream of having a successful online business to come true!

Catharyn – Rebel Entrepreneur
There are literally dozens of opportunties to become self employed online. My goal is to help you find the right ones for your lifestyle, or more importantly, the lifestyle you want to have.
I’m not going to lie to you and tell you any of these will make you rich quickly but with the proper guidance and some effort from you, the sky is the limit.
The Path of Affiliate Marketing
I am currently pursuing this path myself. In fact, this is the very website I’m using to bring in passive income in order to build the lifestyle I desire.
This avenue of opportunity is literally limitless with so many products, services and companies wanting you to advertise for them. You can use your personality, your passions and your unique perspective to help people find what they need on the world wide web.
There are over 4 billion people online searching for products and services right now. You could be a presence on the ‘net that helps them find the right information or the right site. You could be an expert in a particular niche online that helps people make decisions on what to buy, what service to use or which resources to trust. That is a powerful position to be in.
Think of it: instead of being judged for your unique point of view, or brushed aside, you can use it to bring others with similar passions and ideas to the places you’ve discovered that provide the products/services you’re interested in!
For example, I am involved in the Gothic subculture. I have been for decades. I love the darker aspects of life, horror movies and books, heavy metal music and occult subjects. I can use these interests as niches to create websites and blogs with affiliate links to help people with the same interests (whether Gothic or not) to find those specialized products and services they want to find all while generating passive income when they visit and buy products on these sites.
Sounds pretty good, right?
Become An Online Merchant
Another way that you can explore to become self employed online, with or without affiliate marketing, is to become an online merchant. Of course, unlike affiliate marketing you have to have a product or service to sell that you either craft yourself or you get directly from a manufacturer or wholesaler and sell on your site or an online merchandiser like Amazon, Ebay or Etsy. However, you’ll still have to build visibility online and trust with your customers, just like affiliate marketing.
Sell Your Creativity
There are also sites where you can have people support your creative endeavors. Artists, writers, modders, musicians and other creative minds are setting up profiles on Patreon and buymeacoffee to showcase their creativity and have their audience support them through one time or monthly donations in return for first glimpses of new projects and various others perks directly from the creator.
All It Takes Is Dedication
You just choose your niche, set up your site, build confidence in your site over time by adding quality content and inevitably your site or blog will begin bring in traffic, no matter how small your niche may be, and you have passive income.
Now, if you’re like me this concept gets you excited. I don’t want to rely on some company to give me a pittance for an 8 hour work day, slaving away at a set of tasks I despise, day after day wasting my life. I want to enjoy my life and do the things I’m passionate about. In fact, in the current day of social media, doing the things you enjoy gives you even more material for your blog or website! It’s a win-win!
If you’re interested in affiliate marketing you should check out my review on Wealthy Affiliate. Make sure you check out the pros and cons before you decide if their program is right for you.
As I research other online programs I’ll be sure to review those as well, so keep checking back to see what I find.

Catharyn / Fascinatura – A Rebel Entrepreneur
My name is Catharyn and I am a Rebel Entrepreneur. To me, this means that I’m not happy wasting my life working for other people or big, faceless corporations and want to live on my terms.
I’ve always been different. Even when I tried so hard to be what people wanted, it never worked. I was the ‘weird’ one in school, the person that always stuck out like a sore thumb even when all I wanted was to be invisible.
So, when I was 16 I embraced the fact that I’m unique. I’ve always loved the darker side of life… the things that most people shun, I embrace and am fascinated by the new and unknown. I don’t run from challenges or from things that are unfamiliar to me. I test boundaries and comfort zones; especially my own.
Unfortunately, even after the teen years being ‘different’ has a price. It can be difficult to be taken seriously with piercings, brightly colored hair, tattoos and gothic clothing. Jobs are hard to come by sometimes and you’re constantly being judged by others around you. People think because you look different that you’re incompetent, lazy, a troublemaker, a junkie or even a criminal.
I’m actually none of those things and I’m tired of denying who I am for the comfort of those who might pay me in order for me to survive. I’m taking matters into my own hands so I can be free.
Is that what you long for? To do with your life that which your heart says you need to?
Why Do I Care?
I know what it’s like to be judged (wrongly). To not be given a chance to even prove myself because of someone’s perception of what I might be like. I want to help anyone that’s tired of the rat race; tired of making other people’s dreams come true while their own ambitions get trampled in the dust.
I want to help people rebel. Are you ready?
So, What’s the Point of All This?
My goal is to introduce you to ways that you can at least begin your journey towards independence. I’m attempting to offer a hand to people like me who are sick and tired of waking up, doing the same damn thing everyday and wondering if there’s more to life than working a dead end job, with little hope of retirement, until the day we die.
It’s time to take matters into our own hands. It’s time to rebel. I believe you’re ready. All you need to do is believe, take that leap of faith and earn your freedom.
I’ll see you on the other side.
